| Innovation is a fundamental
pillar of the Pottinger company philosophy. Since 2003, Pottinger
has had a successful universal machine the TERRASEM in the market
and this drill has already found favour with user's right around
the world. Now with over 150 Terrasem units at work the range has
been extended to include a new folding 4mtr model Terrasem 4000.
Seedbed preparation and sowing techniques play a key role in
mulch sowing and soil management. Pottinger offers a choice of
two soil preparation units for its Terrasem drill depending upon
local soil and cropping conditions.
The disc harrow unit is comprised of angled 510mm diameter discs
allowing for those wanting to incorporate larger amounts of harvest
residue or green cover to a greater depth. Those wanting a shallow
tilth on lighter soils where erosion is a problem should consider
the rotary star harrow.
A combined press wheel and chassis unit is offered which achieves
an even ground pressure across its working width. In work all
press wheels are rigidly coupled to ensure a level seedbed. When
turning at the headland this arrangement offers reduced ground
pressure over those turning on single wheels ensuring damaging
compaction is kept to a minimum.
For road transport the centre press wheels are lifted clear of
the ground and only the two outer pairs of the wheels bear the
weight of the machine. These wheels are braked either hydraulically
or pneumatically allowing safe and fast transport.
The forming of a neat seed furrow clear of crop trash is particularly
important. The serrated curved disc combined with a trailing clears
the seed furrow for sowing. The angled mounting of the disc prevents
soil from falling back into the furrow ensuring excellent even
seed placement. Hydraulic coulter pressure allows the Terrasem
to achieve coulter pressures of between 50 and 110 kg. Subsequently
an even sowing depth is maintained even in the hardest of conditions.
The farm flex press wheels serve as combined depth and press wheels
for the preceding disc coulters giving excellent seed to soil
contact. These are followed by a heavy duty adjustable following
harrow which produces a weatherproof finish helping combat soil
erosion.
Even germination and growth is therefore achieved time after time.
